Mires, Yorks Joins Seattle-Based Team

Brooks Running Release

On the eve of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team Trials, Brooks Running welcomes recent University of Washington runners Baylee Mires and Izaic Yorks to the Brooks Beasts team.

The two new Beasts, both originally from Brooks’ home state of Washington, bring recent racing momentum and histories of performing well when the stakes are high to the team as its members prepare to compete for a spot on the Olympic team.

Yorks broke the record for the fastest collegiate indoor mile run by an American last spring. At the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships earlier this month, Yorks finished second in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3-minutes, 38.06 seconds. Yorks also ran at this year’s Brooks PR Invitational in the men’s 1,500m and finished third on a windy day on the shoulders of winner Josh Thompson and runner up Leo Manzano.

Mires also ran at the 2016 Brooks PR Invite where she nabbed her Olympic Trials qualifier of 2:02.97. At UW, Mires was a standout athlete who competed in both cross country and track; her focus was on the 800-meter run having received several All-American honors in that event throughout her college career and also having helped her team secure the 2012 national title in the indoor DMR running the 800-meter leg.

Yorks will run in the 1,500m with new teammate Dorian Ulrey while Mires will represent the Beasts solo in the 800m. If you have any questions, please let me know.
